Updated 12:08am ET Most voters weren’t happy with direction the county is heading, but despite that, President Barack Obama will defeat Republican challenger Mitt Romney, NBC News projects. Exit poll interviews with voters on Tuesday point to three big reasons for Obama’s victory: First, despite a slim majority of voters thinking the country is on the wrong track, 54 percent approve of the way Obama is doing his job and the electorate was almost exactly split on whether Obama or Romney would be better at handling the economy. Among the four voters in 10 who said they think economic conditions in the country  are getting better, a huge majority, nearly nine out of ten, said they voted for Obama. And finally, a slight majority of voters voiced an unfavorable view of Romney personally, while a slight majority had a favorable view of Obama.

Key:

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.
