(Moneywatch) Mitt Romney wasn't the only loser in the presidential election. Wall Street's banks and investment firms raised a lot of money for the Republican nominee to no avail. Will they try to mend fences with President Obama and a Democrat-controlled Senate which will soon include Elizabeth Warren, nemesis of big banks? Almost as soon as the election was declared for Mr. Obama, The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association -- which has lobbied and sued to overturn the Dodd-Frank bill -- came out with an oddly conciliatory statement: "We look forward to continuing to work with President Obama and a new Congress on a host of important and immediate issues.

WORCESTER, Mass. –  A champion arm wrestler from Massachusetts has been convicted in the death of his wife, who jumped out of a window to escape him. Forty-one-year-old Allen Stilkey of Worcester (WUS'-tur) was convicted Monday of manslaughter. His wife, Lisa, jumped from a second-floor window of their home in February during what authorities said was a violent argument. Prosecutors say Stilkey threatened to kill his wife first. They say he had recently taken out a $250,000 life insurance policy on her. Stilkey's lawyer maintains his client was not responsible for his wife's death. The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit. ly/VMRgh1) reports that both sides agree that the couple were having marital and financial problems, and the fight began after they had been drinking heavily. Stilkey, who took first place in his weight class at the American Armsport Association's 2010 national championships, faces sentencing Friday.

"If we want people to like us, we have to like them first. And you don't start to like people by insulting them and saying their votes were bought." -- Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, chairman of the Republican Governors Association, on "FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace. ” As President Obama considers how he will remake his administration for a second term he faces some obvious challenges, particularly on how to find new leaders for the Pentagon, CIA and State Department amid an ongoing investigation of those agencies surrounding the attack by Islamist militants on U.S. outposts in Libya on Sept. 11. Some personnel moves would be a good way for the president show some love to Hispanic voters, but because of his party’s shallow bench it’s hard to imagine where Obama could find any Latinos for a top job in his cabinet.

CLEVELAND, OH -- Appearing in an economically hard-hit corner of the crucial battleground state of Ohio, Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan attempted to put a softer edge on the GOP ticket’s plans to reform social programs. In one of his only major policy speeches of the campaign, the Wisconsin congressman sought to widen the GOP ticket's appeal beyond Republicans and to Independents and Democrats -- just as President Barack Obama's campaign warns that GOP nominee Mitt Romney's proposals would wreck the social safety net and stunt upward mobility. “Upward mobility is the central promise of life in America. But right now, America’s engines of upward mobility aren’t working the way they should,” Ryan told the crowd at Cleveland State University.

Updated 12:08am ET Most voters weren’t happy with direction the county is heading, but despite that, President Barack Obama will defeat Republican challenger Mitt Romney, NBC News projects. Exit poll interviews with voters on Tuesday point to three big reasons for Obama’s victory: First, despite a slim majority of voters thinking the country is on the wrong track, 54 percent approve of the way Obama is doing his job and the electorate was almost exactly split on whether Obama or Romney would be better at handling the economy. Among the four voters in 10 who said they think economic conditions in the country  are getting better, a huge majority, nearly nine out of ten, said they voted for Obama. And finally, a slight majority of voters voiced an unfavorable view of Romney personally, while a slight majority had a favorable view of Obama.
