Ill. Officials Push for Illegal Immigrant Licenses | Reduction

Ill. Officials Push for Illegal Immigrant Licenses

Illinois could become the third state in the U.S. to grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants — a move top officials from both parties are pushing as a way to make roads safer and one that could have political implications for lawmakers seeking to court Hispanic voters. Illinois Senate President John Cullerton said Tuesday that he believes he has the votes to get the measure through his chamber next week. Gov. Pat Quinn said he will sign it if it passes the House and makes it to his desk. New Mexico and Washington are the only states in the U.S. to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Quinn and Cullerton, both Democrats, were joined at a news conference by several key Illinois officials, including former Gov. Jim Edgar and Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka, both Republicans, and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a fellow Democrat. All predicted bipartisan support.

The help group says it reached the communities of Khalidiya and Hamidiya in the old city of Homs on Saturday after settlements with the government and rebels. It stated in a statement late Sunday that 34 foreign delegates and Syrian Arab Red Crescent officials had the ability to provide medical help to 100 wounded individuals. The Geneva-based group says it also provided medication, food and hygiene items to "hundreds of civilians (who) have been unable to leave Khalidiya and Hamidiya for at least four months" because of battling. Homs has actually witnessed some of Syria's worst battling because a popular uprising began in the country in March 2011.

WASHINGTON –  Watergate Judge John J. Sirica aided the prosecution in pursuing the White House connection to the Democratic headquarters break-in by providing the special prosecutor information from a probation report in which one of the burglars said he was acting under orders from top Nixon administration officials, according to once-secret documents released Friday by the National Archives. One newly public transcript of an in-chambers meeting between Sirica, the U.S. District Court judge in charge of the case, and then-Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox in July 1973 shows the judge revealed secret probation reports indicating that E. Howard Hunt had cited orders from officials high up in the Nixon administration.

FBI granted access to Libya consulate attack suspect detained in Tunisia | Synopsis

FBI granted access to Libya consulate attack suspect detained in Tunisia

FBI agents are making their means to Tunisia to interview a suspicious apprehended there in the Libya consulate attack, sources tell Fox News, after Tunisian authorities initially declined to give the U.S. investigators access to the man. Tunisian authorities accepted let the FBI concern Ali Ani al Harzi only if it is done "under Tunisian sovereignty," a condition evidently being cited in recognition of domestic pressure in the North African country. The current development comes after an intervention by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who wrote to the Tunisian authorities about the absence of access. It isn't really clear just what pressure the Obama administration had been applying. UNITED STATE Ambassador Chris Stevens and 3 other Americans were killed in the Sept. 11 attack on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Zoo Calendar Features Animals From Boy's Mauling | Reduction

Zoo Calendar Features Animals From Boy's Mauling

Excerpt:

The Pittsburgh Zoo is featuring the animals that fatally mauled a 2-year-old boy earlier this year on the March page of its 2013 calendar. Zoo officials say the calendars featuring pictures of African painted dogs had already been printed and made available to patrons before the Nov. 4 death of Maddox Derkosh. The boy died after falling off a railing and into the animals' habitat, where he was attacked. Zoo President Barbara Baker tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ( http://bit. ly/UYXO5P ) that officials considered scrapping the calendars after the boy's death but they'd already been on sale beforehand. Baker says the dogs are an endangered species the zoo is responsible for helping protect. The exhibit remains closed.
